An average home in the USA uses about 30, 60-watt bulbs, per household. Our sample household using incandescent light bulbs will burn 3,200 kilowatt-hours every year. That represents roughly $325 of your annual power bill. The same house using LEDs only uses 330 kilowatts. That’s about $32 for the entire year for the same family that would have paid $325.
LEDs emit light in a specific direction, reducing the need for reflectors and diffusers that can trap light. This feature makes LEDs more efficient for many uses such as recessed downlights and task lighting. With other types of lighting, the light must be reflected to the desired direction and more than half of the light may never leave the fixture.
LEDs emit very little heat. In comparison, incandescent bulbs release 90% of their energy as heat and CFLs release about 80% of their energy as heat.
Because LEDs are small and directional, they are ideal for lighting countertops for cooking and reading recipes. Recessed downlights are commonly used in residential kitchens, hallways, and bathrooms, libraries, offices, closets, entryways and more. LEDs are not limited to downlighting, we can replace every light bulb including ceiling lights, free-standing lamps, and outdoor lighting systems.
With performance improvements and dropping prices, LED lights can replace 40, 60, 75 Watt incandescent bulbs or higher. LED technology has come a long way from large, clunky light bulbs emitting a bright bluish light. LED lights now come in warm colors that mimic old-fashioned incandescent lights and are much more dynamic.
